Gary, I am not familiar with the Cheraw, SC, area or genealogical group. So
far our Allen line goes (current to oldest): Abner Allen (Ga)--George
Washington Allen (Ga)--Leland Allen(b. Va.)--Reynolds Allen (b. Va.)-- Robert
Allen (b.?Va.). There seems to be no descent from the several William Allens
encountered both in Ga. and Va. Dwight has at least a hint of information
that indicates a possibility that Robert Allen came to Va. from Maryland, but
this is conjecture only, which he is exploring. This would be in early 1700's.
(Have I disclaimed sufficiently?)
I believe either Dwight or I sent you a descendant chart on the Allens but if
not either of us can do so, detailing spouses, dates, locations, etc. Just let
us know.
When you make your trip this way I hope Dwight and I will have the opportunity
to see you. I am in Roswell, a suburb of Atlanta, and Dwight is in
Hendersonville, near Ashville, NC.
About 50 miles southeast of Augusta there is an Allendale, SC. A George
Washington Allen was an original settler in the early 1800's, coming from
England. I stopped there one day 13 years ago and talked to the town librarian
and could see no connection to my particular Allens.
Wishing you, too, a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Doug
