The Augusta Public Library has a book detailing abstract of 1790 tax
returns to determine census of Wilkes County, Georgia. On page 120,
William Allen is listed as being in Captain James McCluskey's District
with one slave, 40 acres of secondary quality and 60 acres of tertiary
quality land. I don't know whether this is our William Allen or not as
Franklin County where the other William Allen came from os north of
Wilkes County. However, I remain 90% sure that our William Allen was in
Jefferson County and that two of his brothers were named Joseph and
Robert.
In another book, I found a description of a Benjamin Allen who had
migrated from South Carolina to Wilkes County with his wife and two
daughters, ages 5 and 2, in 1773. Could this be the oldest brother of
the four Allens who came from Ireland?
