Fwd: Re: Hunsucker Pedigree (EMAIL 2 - NOT A DUPLICATION)

Email From Adrian Hopkins kee46@email.msn.com to Gary Aden
Email Dated 2/12/1998

Hi Gary,

I hope you enjoy this "reading".  I have been able to compile some
interesting things from census records, etc..  It is looking like Sarah
could have had a child out of wedlock.  I have checked the "Bastardy"
warrents of Moore County but it didn't turn up anything.  I wish there was
some record of her previous marriage and the marriage to Ephriam Oldham.

Still looking!  Please send your descendants from Margaret Inez down.

Adrian

Needless to say, all this has led to much
speculation, especially since "Granny Odom"(Sarah) was a full-blooded
German who legend has it smoked a pipe and came to town always dressed
in a black dress, an apron and a bonnet. What I'm trying to convey is
that she apparently was outspoken, daring and marched to her own drum.

  Genealogical Sketch
By
Street Brewer
Written:  March 31, 1910, Roseboro, Sampson Co., NC

The writer, Street Brewer, was born at Gold Region, Moore Co. NC, then a
little "gold mine" village.

  Paternal Ancestry
My father was Noah Brewer, who was son of Harmon Brewer, who was the son of
John Brewer.  From the best traditional statements handed down from our
ancestors the first Brewers came to NC from VA, from PA to VA, from MA to PA
and from England to MA.  They first settled in Moore and Chatham counties
where many of their descendents are still living.  They were a mixture of
Scotch-Irish, Welch and English.  Of the original Brewers who came to the
above-named counties were Ambrose, Lanier, Drewry, Micajah and Howell.  A
great many of their posterity emigrated to TN, SC, GA and other western
states.  In religion they were Baptists, and most of them are Baptists now,
though some are Methodists and members of the Southern Christian Church.
My father's mother (i.e. Noah Brewer's mother) was (Nee) Janie Grubbs, a
descendent of the Shout (?) family of New England.  My grandfather Harmon
Brewer and his wife, Janie had the following children:

*William- He raised a large family and lived to be eighty-nine years old.
Sallie- Married Billie Cagle and had a large family
Sampson - died when just grown
Minnie- married David Carner and moved to TN
Susannah who married a Mr. Russell and moved first to TN then to IN
Jennie - who never married but lived to be an aged woman.
Betsy - Married Hiram Elkins and died in Moore Co. NC
Noah - My father, who died in Moore Co., age 70
Annie - married Isham Sheffield and died in Moore Co.

   My father had three boys:
James Whitman Brewer - Co. 1, 2nd NC Cavalry of the Confederate Army and
died in Lynchburg, VA in 1862
Alexander Brewer who died in Moore Co in 1883
Street Brewer (author of story)
Alexander Brewer married Alina Stutts, daughter of James and Ann (Shields)
Stutts.  They had four boys,
Here we need to adjust our database.  We had James W. Brewer.  Then we had
Whitson Brewer.  I deleted Whitson and changed James W. to James Whitson.  I
left Strut for now, could that be a girl?

   Brewer Bio Continued..Page 2
James N. Brewer - who died about three years ago.
Milton, Murphy and Stacy Brewer, (Alex.'s children) were all living in Moore
Co. when he wrote this bio.

**Alexander married twice.  Had a daughter, Kate by his first marriage, who
married John Brown and is now living at Elise, Moore Co.
(Insert by K. Melvin.  Alexander's first wife was Mary Stutts, a daughter of
Emily (Shields) Stutts.  Kate, the daughter of this marriage, was born Oct.
15, 1858 and died July 6, 1937 at the age of 78 years.
[This next small section is hand written]

  *W. M. Brewer - Mar 3 1793 - June 11, 1881- age 88 buried Brown's Chapel
Elizabeth (wife) - Feb. 4 1792 - Jan 29 1876- age 81 buried Brown's Chapel
Sealy Brewer - June 1828 - Oct. 1886
Sampson Brewer - died 1906 buried Barcoms Chapel
Elizabeth Elkins - cem #162  (I think, hard to read)
**buried Tabernacle Church Cem. Robbins.

   Maternal Ancestry
My mother Patsy (Nee) Hunsucker Brewer was the daughter of William
Hunsucker, the son of John Hunsucker (who was hanged by the notorious David
Farning during the Revolutionary War.)  The original Hunsucker's came to NC
from Holland.  They were Dutch, and were first known as Hunsingers.
My grandfather, William Hunsucker, had the following children:

George - who lived and died in Moore Co., was married 3 times and raised a
large family.
William - who married, lived and died in Moore Co. and had several children.
Nancy - who married James Williams and lived and died in Randolph Co. and
had several children.
John - who moved to Rutherford Co. NC married and died there, he had several
children.
Patsy - (my mother)
Bettie - who married Hiram Kelly and lived and died in Moore Co.
Katie - who married N. G. S. Marley, they lived and died in Moore Co.
Clarkey - who married William Stutts and is still living in Moore Co.
Mom, add, Nancy, and John to your family sheet.  Also chang Betsy to Bettie!
Add Katie with Catherine for her nickname.

My Maternal grandmother, Livicy (Nee) Brewer Hunsucker, daughter of the
Howell Brewer named on page 1.  She lived to be one hundred and three years
old.  My ancestors on both sides were not lacking in patriotism, being tried
in the Revolutionary War and the Continued Brewer Bio...page 3

Civil War.  They generally lived to be old men and women.  Here is a list of
some who lived to the following ages.

Grandmother Livicy Hunsucker 103 yrs old
Grandfather William Hunsucker 76 yrs old
Grandfather Harman Brewer 70 yrs old
Uncle George Hunsucker 83 yrs old
Uncle William Brewer 89 yrs old
Aunt Sallie Cagle 80 yrs old
Aunt Susannah Russell 90 yrs old
Aunt Jennie Brewer 78 yrs old
Aunt Betsy  (W ?)ilkns 80 yrs old
Aunt Annie Sheffield 80 yrs old
Aunt Bettie Kelly 95 yrs old

   Notes by K. Melvin:
Alena Brewer is buried at Robbins Tabernacle Church.  Her dates:  8/28/1848-
3/13/1923
William and Clarkey Stutts are buried at Tabernacle.  His dates:  9/19/1818-
11/5/1908.  Hers:  JL.25, 1818- Oct. 8, 1911.
William Cagle:  1738-1860 and Sarah Cagle, 1800---are buried in the
Sheffield-Cagle Cem.
Many Brewer names, including very old dates, are to be found at Brown's
Chapel Church in upper Moore.
See also Moore Co. Census of 1850:

  Page 4   continued...Brewer/Hunsucker Bio
Howell Bruer was granted land in Moore on May 10, 1754.  In 1758 he sold 200
acres to Zacharish Green, lying on both sides of Deep River.  In 1767 he
sold to John May land lying on the northwest side of Deep River, being part
of a grant to Edward Griffith, Oct. 11, 1749.

The 1790 Census for Moore lists the following:  Ambrose, Drewery, Lanier and
Nimrod Brewer.  All except Nimrod are married and with families.

Says Mr. Rassie Wicker, Moore historian, "Ambrose Bruer appears in very
early records, but it is understood he went west before the establishment of
Moore.  However, this man appears in the 1790 Census.  The Brewers were
assigned to work the road, newly opened, from the Island Ford to the
Randolph line, on the north side of Deep River, so they must settle in that
area, northeast of High Falls."

John Brewer, Near Brewer are listed in the 1777 Cumberland list of Taxables,
as having 100 acres each.  In the year 1815 a list of Moore Co. land owners
was drawn up.  It includes Ambrous Brewer with over 400 acres, Micajah
Brewer, 313 acres, Harmon Brewer, 50 acres and William Hunsucker with 100
acres.

The 1850 Census of Moore Co. lists the Noah Brewer family as follows:
Brewer, Noah 36   Blacksmith, real estate, $100
Martha E.  36
Whitson 16   ( He penciled in James in front of Whitson)
Alexander 11
William S. 2  (again penciled in Street)
A William Brewer Jr. from Moore was in the war with Mexico.  (See roster of
NC Troops in the War with Mexico)
In the Civil War the following served:
Henry Brewer - 22nd Div. Enlisted 3-15-63
Henry Brewer - 46 H. 3-11-63  parolled at Appomattox
James W. Brewer - 19th I. Died 12/28/62, Lynchburg
Malcolm Brewer - (Capt. ) 26th H. wounded 7/1/63, Gettysburg
Martin Brewer, F 3 7/15/62, prisoner of war. Bur. Brown's church
S.W. Brewer - 26th H
Sampson Brewer - 46th H, 3/11/63, bur. Bascom's Chapel, 1906
W.D. Brewer - 26 th H. killed 7/1/63, Gettysburg
Wesley Brewer - 46th H. enlisted 3/11/63
William Brewer - 46th H

I find it very odd he doesn't mention the death date of his mother.  He
doesn't mention where she and Noah are buried either.  Like most men, he
knew more about the Brewer line but he helped us some.  It seems that George
was the one with the large family in the Census records and not George Sr.
son, George M.
