Adrianne,
I have from the book *North Carolina Troops: 1861-1865* the following
information.
Company I, 37th Regiment
This company, known as the "Mecklenburg Rifles," was raised in Mecklenburg
County and was enlisted at Charlotte on October 22, 1861. It was mustered
into state service on November 20, 1861, and was assigned to the 37 Regiment
N.C. Troops as Company I. The company functioned thereafter as part of the
37th Regiment, and its history for the remainder of the war is reported as
part of the regimental history.
The information contained in the following roster was compiled principally
from a company muster-in roll dated November 20, 1861, and from company
muster rolls dated January-April, 1852; June 30, 1862-February 28, 1863; and
July, 1863-February, 1865. No company muster rolls were found for November
20-December 31, 1862; May 1-June 29, 1862; March-June, 1863; and March-April,
1865. Valuable information was obtained from primary sources such as the
North Carolina adjutant general's Roll of Honor, discharge certificates,
medical records, prisoner of war records, pension applications, and Civil War
histories, cemetery records, and records for the United Daughter of the
Confederacy also provided useful information.
