Hi Nancy,
I have not found any connection to the Cherokees, however, all of my
life I have heard that our Archie Hunsucker's 2nd wife, Louisa Angeline
Arrington Ross Hunsucker was a "full blood" Cherokee. I am not in her
direct line but she and Archie had 8 children, I believe. I mention this
because of the way "family stories" get twisted around sometimes and it
could very well have been Archie's mother, father, or some other Hunsucker
who was the Cherokee rather than Louisa. I have not even been able to find
Archie, though, so I don't hold out much hope for finding out if anyone in
his line is Cherokee<LOL!

Jean,
Let me ask you this.....have you noticed any associations of Cherokee
bloodlines with this Honeysuckle spelling?
I am tracking any and all, proven and unproven, Cherokee associations with
the name of Huntsucker and other spellings. My Easter Huntsucker was
Cherokee and I am interested in following the Honeysuckle trail at this
point.(She was from the SC area)
Thank you for any help you can give!!:)

Hi Nancy,
Honeysuckle, Honsuck, Honsuk, etc., etc, etc., all of these are
variations of Hunsucker. Census takers were not particular when it came
to putting down names and many times they may have heard "Hunsucker" but in
their minds it was "Honeysuckle". I've even found my line written as
Hunneysuck and Hunneysuckle! With this name, it's usually best to take in
ALL variations or you may miss one. I can remember my grandmother being
referred to as Miz Honeysuckle---even though she was married to a Clay!
Someone who knew her family called her that. I think it might even be a
"Southern thing"! <LOL> We southerners have a tendency to "slow down and
string out" our words and sometimes it isn't always recognizable as the
original!<LOL>
