Dear Bernice-

Delighted to see that we have another gravewalker in the
family! I originally became involved in genealogical pursuits as a
result of thinking what a shame it was that I had no idea of my family's
old world roots as I had an oppotunity to do a little world travel.
Think of it- I might have visited the places they were born, worked,
lived and died, if only I had known. So in the case of the Aden line-
this is as far as I have come!

Re: their debarkation at Ellis Island- I am searching my files
and will forward it as well when I find it. I hope Your Man In Germany
can help us! Once again- looking forward to hearing more!        Cuz
Gary

Dear Sandie: I will summarize and correct some of what I communicated
the last time for interested parties as well as put forward my best
hypothesis on Hiye a.k.a. Heye' bithplace.

The original, polished obelisk marble tombstone standing prominently
without any other markers or apparent  graves near it reads:

                  Hiye J. Aden
                     GEB
            DEN 26, SEPT.1817
                     GEST
            DEN  7, APR. 1894

GEB means born; DEN means the; GEST means died.  J. is the abbreviation
for Jansen.

Heye in english pronunciation sounds like Hiye in german.

The tombstone is located at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery adjacent to St.
Peter Lutheran Church, Benson, Illinois 61516. Membership records in the
church show he was born in Ostochd__zon,Osfriesland. Letter omissions
are intentional as they were illegible. The church records are based
upon information provided by the members. I could discover no such town
in contemporary Germany. The names of towns have been changed and the
letter z has been modified in many german words to the letter s.
Accordingly, I posit that he was born in OCHOCHTERSUM, OCHTERSUM,
OSTFRIESLAND 26449(zip code). This village is 402 population and has a
City Hall. There is a railroad station 4-5- miles away in the town of
ESENS. The village is probably a half hour drive from Bremen. The
Registrar of Records for this area is likely in Hamburg, according to
the German Tourist Board(212) 661-7200.

By way of summary, Heye followed his sons, John, Eilt and Memke  (Mimke)
to America debarking 19 April, 1869 at New York with his 50 year old
wife, Cente Habben( January 5,1819- 1875), Daughters Etta, Antje,
Gretje, and Trintze, ages 30,28, 15, and 11, and sons Hobbo 7 and Heie
infant after embarking at the Port of Bremen. Heye was 51 at the time of
the journey. Naturalization records exist for Heye and a death
certificate shows that the cause of death was "Delirium blandum",
whatever that means.

I am feeling encouraged in our  quest to eventually identify Heye's
parents and thereby  other descendants that may still live in the old
world. As ever, Gary
