QUICK ALLEN WAR 8

Heaven forbid that the British public should ever feel so
threatened as in the dark days of World War II, but should they need a
morale boosting movie from a bygone victory, The Battle of Brier Creek
might be just the ticket. Imagine only five privates killed and one
officer and ten non-commissioned officer/ privates wounded against
untold losses and desertions by the enemy, but a body count of 150 and
27 officers/150 NCO's captured. Add to these losses the captured arms
and ammunition plus an emboldened invasion of Carolina and you have the
ingredients for buoyant British hopes then and after the hypothetical
movie.

The article states that the Rebels retreated or deserted in many
instances into the Carolinas. Indeed, in Robert Allen's mustering list,
ten of the twenty seven member  Burke County militia are identified by
name as  deserters in their engagement. Thus, another possibility looms
in the attempt to establish the eventual linking of William Allen to his
eventual wife, Elizabeth BARCLAY Allen whom he married in 1786.
