DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ANCESTOR-SOLDIER and  third
son of Theobald and Anna Elisabeth LAUER Mechling, John Jacob Mechliing,
was born 27 February 1747 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. When the
Revolutionary War broke out, "Jacob" enlisted and was soon made Captain
of the 4th Batallion of the Pennsylvania Militia from Westmoreland
County. Even after the war ended, he still took part in military
activities, defending the state's borders from Indian attacks. Jacob,
besides being a farmer and miller(listed as the latter on the 1800
Census), was also active in civic affairs. In 1794, he was appointed Tax
Assessor for Westmoreland County; in 1785, he was elected coroner; also
the same year he acted as judge in the election and helped elect a
sheriff for Westmoreland County. He and his wife, Catherine HAMAN
Mechling,  were the parents of nine children, all raised with Lutheran
religious affiliation. The 1783 Tax List shows him with 300 acres, 3
horses, 4 cows, and 6 sheep. Jacob died November 8, 1824 at the age of
77. Catherine lived until August 18, 1832, dying at age of 83. Both are
buried in Fightners Cemetery, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Their
fourth child and third son,    George J. Mechling( 5/ 30,1773
Northampton County, Pennsylvania baptized as John George- 2/8/1853
Mahoning County, Ohio), 4th great grandfather in my pedigree line,
changed the spelling of his surname to MACKLIN.
