Dear Ms. Knight,

In answer to statements/questions you asked: (1) I am a direct
descendant via Beverly Parks Allen, Beverly Joseph Barkley Allen, and
mother Irene Maud Allen of the Rev. J.W. B. Allen, Wiilliam B. Allen and
William Allen. So far as I know, Thomas Wray Allen is not in that line
and I have no information about him. (2) The notorious Beverly Allen had
a brother named William Allen, but that family is not related to ours.
(3) I know of no Elizabeth Allen in our pedigree. (4) I am unfamiliar
with the N.C. William Allen line and this is true of the rest of the
names you mention. Give my regards to Ms. Huie. Thank you. Any further
comments are invited. Gary

Gary,

I have been trying to find my Allen ancestors for years, and recently
found a query from Rebecca Huie in a GA periodical.   We have been
e-mailing and she gave me your address as an interested researcher and
descendant of Thomas Wray Allen.  Where in Texas did Thomas live?  I have
found Alex, his sister Louisa (Conally), his brother, Leroy P., and a
John who may be a brother...all near Alex in McLennan Co., TX.

I have a lot of information on the Nalers, and Alex D.'s wife is the
sister of my great grandmother, Mary Naler Bagley.  Mary's mother-in-law,
Elizabeth Allen Bagley, was living with Mary and James Bagley in Forsyth
Co., GA in 1850.  Since Alex and Elizabeth (Naler) were next door, and
also went to McLennan Co., TX,  some researchers have assumed that Alex
and Elizabeth Allen Bagley were siblings, children of Gray Wyatt Allen.
I found several records proving that Alex is the son of Beverly and
Sarah.  Rebecca sent me a copy of an article by Leroy P. Allen and an
addition to it by Olivia Allen Cranfill.   I have had data on her family
(A.D. and Elizabeth Allen) and her own Cranfill family for years.   Some
of it you may not have.

I have collected a file on William Allen's family while trying to find if
my Elizabeth was related, and will share what you want.  I have found
several versions of the Rev. Beverly Allen shooting the US marshall.
Some say he is the brother of your William(b. @1755).   An account in the
history of Anson Co., NC says, "The young Rev. Beverly Allen was no
relation to the well known Allen family in the area."

Have you seen the Pedigree file in the LDS Family Search?  It is on the
internet, and shows that William Allen (b. 1725) in VA married a Miss Beverly,
as well as a Miss Wray and Sarah Ann Smith.   Miss Beverly  had a son
named Beverly Allen before she died.  This William is listed as the father
of Gray Wyatt Allen, and has ancestors traced back to England in the 1600's.
The Pedigree file has errors, since it is contributed by many people and some
don't bother to prove what they find.  But it also has much good material.

The thing I am trying to learn is whether my Elizabeth Allen(b. abt. 1793
in NC) is related to William and Beverly.   I have not found her in any
of the records of their families.  I haven't seen anything connecting
them to Wyatt Allen, either.   There is some evidence that she is Wyatt's
daughter, but no proof that I have seen.  Elizabeth married James Bagly,
Sr. in 1813 in Franklin Co., GA.

Unless I can prove otherwise, it appears that Alex Davis Allen is the
only connecting link between the two Allen families.   That link is his
marriage to Elizabeth Naler, whose sister Mary Naler married Elizabeth
Allen Bagley's son, James.

Sorry this is rather long...I should admit that I have copied and pasted
some of my previous messages to other researchers (hope it makes sense!).
I am trying to prepare for a trip home next week.  We are
house-sitting for a relative near the Family History Library, so I am
trying to do as much research as possible before we go back to Boise in
January.

I will appreciate any help.  If you have addresses for other descendants
of A.D. and Olivia Allen, perhaps they might know if A.D. was related to
my Elizabeth Allen Bagly.

Thank you,  Dorothy Knight
